APPOINTMENT SYSTEM - BY TELEPHONE OR IN PERSON
All consultations are by appointment and should be made at reception or by telephone during opening hours or online. Please book well in advance for routine appointments. Antenatal, postnatal and surgical procedures need longer appointments. If you are booking appointments online, please note to look at our services and duration needed for a particular problem/procedure before booking this appointment. Do ask the receptionist if you are uncertain. Please wear loose clothing. Please inform reception if you would like a chaperone.
You can book a non-urgent appointment up to 28 days in advance. As you are aware your preferred doctor may be very popular and their appointments get booked in advance. Our advice is that you give plenty of notice if you wish to see your preferred doctor and book appointments in advance.

Each morning at 8.00am we release urgent on the day appointments for patients who have genuinely urgent medical conditions. We have up to 2 people answering the telephones at 8.00am and from 8.30am patients can also walk-in to request an urgent appointment for sometime that day at the Reception desk. Please be patient with us.
You will be asked to give a brief description of your condition to ascertain the urgency of your request. The Care Navigators (reception team) work from a guidance sheet that is created by the doctors. Depending on the nature of your call you will be offered a telephone call from one of our minor illness nurses who will call you back from 8am onwards ONLY ONCE to discuss your problem and then you will be advised appropriately depending on the nature of your condition and clinical need.
For all telephone triage consultations booked with the minor illness nurse, patients will be asked to give an up to date landline or mobile telephone number so that the minor illness nurse can return your call this day. Patients are advised to call as early as possible for urgent appointments only. We strongly advise that you are available to receive a call from our clinician soon after.
Due to great demand on primary care on some occasions we have to re-direct patients to an alternative provision i.e. Colchester Walk-In-Centre or NHS111.
The staff may not always be able to offer you the exact time and date you wish for your routine appointment, but they will happily spend time to try and find something to suit your needs. You will find them very approachable and they will gladly help to sort out your queries or worries and pass them to the Doctors if necessary.We hold a branch surgery at the Village Hall in Great Tey most weeks, but this is for patients living in Great Tey only. Please telephone the surgery on 01787 222022 for an appointment. This service is on Tuesday mornings at the Village Hall but this cannot be guaranteed every week.Please note, we do everything we can to assist you as soon as possible, but we are not an emergency service. If you have any condition that needs immediate medical treatment, please go straight to A & E or phone 999 for an ambulance.
EXTENDED ACCESS FOR GP APPOINTMENTS
GP and nurse appointments are now available in your area during the evenings and weekends.
Appointments are available 6.30pm - 8.30pm Monday-Friday, 8am - 2pm Saturday, Sunday and over bank holidays.
Appointments are at one of 4 mid Essex centres - there is no walk in service available.
You will see the most suitable healthcare professional such as a nurse practitioner, GP or healthcare assistant.
You can book or cancel these appointments in the same way as regular ones - at your surgery or online.

Please contact the surgery before 10.00am wherever possible on the day that you require a home visit stating clearly the patients name, address and telephone number.Please state whether you require a visit urgently to enable us to assess priority. Home visits are for patients who are housebound or too ill to attend the surgery.
As from 29th April 2019, all home visit requests will be triaged by our minor illness nurses to assess the urgency of call and advise you appropriately. Morning clinics are normally completed by 12pm. Soon after this time our Doctors and Minor Illness Nurse will attend to on the day visit requests from patients in the community and from the seven care homes that we provide care for the aging population. Please note that care homes need to make us aware of ALL of the symptoms on the same day rather than call on separate requesting visits for the same patient.
Visits are attended to in between morning and afternoon clinics, also urgent visits are attended to throughout the day by the duty doctor.
Difficulty with transport is not a sufficient reason to request a home visit and patients should make their own arrangements to travel to the surgery.
How to sign up for online services
It is not hard to start using online services. We will need to check who you are to make sure you only see your record and not someone else's. Just like your bank or the post office when you pick up a parcel, we want to protect your records from people who are not allowed to see them. The steps below explain how this works.

If you forget your login details
If you lose or forget your login details, go to the website and click the "forgotten details" button then follow the instructions. If this does not work then please contact the surgery.
We offer a small selection of our appointments to be booked online via the internet. These appointments are for GPs only and can be booked up to 28 days in advance (in line with our advanced booking policy). You may only book a maximum of one appointment at any one time via the internet. This is to protect overbooking and preventing abuse of appointment system. Please refer to our services and duration required per appointment to allow us appropriate times required for problems and procedures. For example, if you need a coil removal and re-insertion appointment the surgery allows clinicians 30 minutes with healthcare assistance. Our advice would be to telephone the surgery to book these type of appointments with our reception team.
Online Doctor appointments are NOT for Health checks, Diabetic Reviews, Immunisations, Smears, Dressings, Blood Tests and Coils. You will need to telephone the surgery on 01787 222022 to book in for these.
Inappropriate use of the online booking system will deny patients of suitable appointments. We therefore reserve the right at any time to withdraw patients' use of this system in the event of this happening.
Online appointments are not bookable for the practice nurses or the healthcare assistants due to their clinics being very varied with different time allowance for different procedures.

Failure to Attend an Appointment (DNA)
If you no longer require your appointment, please telephone in good time to cancel, so that we can offer this to another patient who might need it urgently.
To cancel your appointment, please telephone the surgery on 01787 222022 or cancel online.
We are following patient's who miss their appointments three times or more in the same year by writing to them that if they need assistance or guidance cancelling their appointments to please contact us for an explanation.
DID YOU KNOW ..... we had 95 wasted appointments in March 2019 when patients did not cancel their appointment this month. We could have offered these appointments to patients who say they find it difficult to book an appointment with our clinicians.

Please speak to reception team if you want to give consent in writing for a family member, carer or a third party to receive or give any confidential messages.
Appointment Reminder Service
An appointment reminder service is now in place to confirm your appointment at the surgery by SMS text message to your mobile phone. This is to help patients remember and reduce the amount of "Did not attend" appointments which are wasted.
