Prescriptions

All patients registered with the practice can order their repeat medication requests in the following ways:

Please allow two working days, excluding weekends and bank holidays for your request to be processed. Repeat prescriptions ordered after 17:30 will not be processed until the following working day.  If you have any problems please telephone the dispensary on 01787 223408.

In each case, the names of the required medication should be stated, and 48 hours notice given. This is to allow for prescriptions to be actioned by the dispensary team and checked and signed by your doctor before your prescription will be available.  Doctors should not be disturbed while they are consulting with patients.

Please do not worry if your prescription will overrun due to appointment availability.  The doctors are usually happy to issue a prescription past this date if an appointment has been booked.

Repeat dispensing

The Pump House Surgery are able to dispense medications only for our patients who live further than 1.6 kilometres from a pharmacy. If you are seen by a doctor for an urgent matter at the surgery and issued with a prescription, we are not able to dispense this to you if you are not eligible.

In response to coronarvirus and COVID-19, GPs and pharmacies are moving suitable patients to electronic repeat dispensing, also known as eRD. This is to minimise contact and workload.

Repeat dispensing is the name of a scheme for people who have the same regular medication every single month.  It is not suitable for medication that can often change or is not required every month.

Rather than having to request your medication from the surgery every month, it would be much easier for you to collect it directly from your pharmacy, or to have it delivered if this is a service they offer.

If you are suitable we will then issue a batch of prescriptions to send to the pharmacy of your choice.  When you collect the last prescription of the batch, the pharmacy will tell you to order a new batch from the surgery. This will save both you and us a lot of time and paperwork.

Medication reviews

Patients on repeat medication will be asked to consult with a pharmacist, a doctor, nurse practitioner or practice nurse at least once a year to review these regular medications. The notification date should appear on your repeat slip.

Please ensure that you book an appropriate appointment to avoid unnecessary delays to further prescriptions. If you have been advised by the surgery that your medication review is due, you will need to fill out our online Medication Review Form.

Electronic prescription service (EPS)

The Electronic Prescription Service (EPS) is a NHS service that allows us to send your prescription(s) directly to your chosen pharmacy. This paper-free prescription service means that you do not have to come into the surgery to collect your prescription.

We encourage all patients to register for this free service. You can register for electronic prescribing by completing our online EPS registration form.

Prescription fees

View the cost of prescriptions on the NHS website.

You can also find out if you are entitled to free prescriptions.

Over the counter medicines

Patients can purchase medications after seeking appropriate advice from a community pharmacist or other healthcare professionals. Mid Essex CCG is keen to support patients in managing their own self-limiting conditions and minor ailments, which do not need to be treated by a doctor or minor illness nurse.

Not taking up an appointment for the supply of an over-the-counter medicine will increase availability of appointments for patients with more serious conditions. You can use our over the counter leaflets to find out more:

Housebound patients

We deliver to our housebound dispensing patients on a Friday morning. If you are eligible for this please speak to the dispensary team. For patients who have signed up for this service, our driver who delivers to your door on Fridays, his name is David Cook.  If you have any issues and concerns, please make our driver aware who will be happy to bring your queries to our dispensary team’s attention.

Great Tey patients

A delivery service to Great Tey Village Hall and Chappel Post Office is available, please ask the dispensary team for further details.  Please be aware that repeat prescription requests for collection at Great Tey must be requested by the end of surgery on a Tuesday to ensure delivery on the Friday on that week.

Medications are able to be collected between 09:00 and 09:45 on Fridays mornings from Great Tey Village Hall unless otherwise notified.

Mediboxes

We supply on arrangement with our dispensary team mediboxes (for people who have difficulty remembering their medication, problems with dexterity, elderly and disabled).

Medicines waste campaign

Please order only what is required each month to prevent medicines wastage.  Repeat medication will not be removed from your repeat list unless changes are authorised by a doctor or specialist, or if the medication has not been issued for a long period of time (usually between 6-12 months).

Unwanted or expired medication

Unwanted or expired medication may be returned to the dispensary for disposal if you are a registered dispensing patient. We unfortunately cannot accept returned medication that has been dispensed elsewhere.
